PlayStation Plus Game Catalog Expands in 2024

PlayStation Plus, Sony’s premium subscription service for PlayStation users, saw a major expansion of its included game catalog in 2024. After revamping PlayStation Plus in June 2022 to include hundreds of games across three tiers (Essential, Extra, and Premium), Sony continued adding new titles throughout 2023 and 2024 to bolster the value of the membership program.

By the end of 2024, over 950 additional games were added to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalogs. This brought the total number of downloadable PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games included with those tiers to over 1650.

PlayStation Studios Titles Lead the Charge

A lot of the growth in 2024 came from first-party PlayStation Studios titles. Sony made a concerted effort to bring more of its acclaimed franchises into PlayStation Plus quicker after launch. Over 30 PlayStation Studios titles launched in 2023 and 2024 were added to the Extra and Premium catalogs within their launch year.

These included heavy-hitters like God of War: Ragnarök, Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Sony also added the PC versions of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure to PlayStation Plus in 2024 to align with its PC launch initiative.

Key PlayStation Franchises See New Entries

In addition to the flagship titles, many other popular PlayStation franchises saw new entries in 2023 and 2024 that landed day-one on PlayStation Plus. These included games like Ratchet &; Clank: Rift Apart, Little Big Planet: Cosmic Journey, Ghost of Tsushima 2, Returnal: Ascension, Astro Bot: Quantum Quest, WipEout: Neo, and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time Remastered.

Cult classics that got sequels or reboots in 2024 like Twisted Metal: Overdrive, Patapon 3, Infamous: Second Sight, and SOCOM: Recon also hit PlayStation Plus immediately upon launch.

Acclaimed Indies Find a Home

Alongside PlayStation Studios games and iconic franchise entries, Sony continued to add standout indie titles into PlayStation Plus throughout 2024. The diversity of unique, creative experiences coming from smaller independent developers remained a hallmark of the PS4 and PS5 libraries.

Notable indies added to PlayStation Plus in 2024 included Quantic Dream’s Star Child, Annapurna Interactive’s Skin Deep, thatgamecompany’s Cloud Gardens, Tribute Games’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, Analgesic Productions’ Anacrusis, Half Mermaid’s Storyteller, and Die Gute Fabrik’s Mutazione.

The variety and quality of indies on offer helped add to the overall value proposition of a PlayStation Plus membership. Gamers with diverse tastes could find hidden gems to enjoy across an eclectic catalog of titles big and small.

Classic Catalogs Continue to Grow

Sony also regularly infused PlayStation Plus Premium’s Game Catalog (which includes hundreds of classic PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games remastered for modern hardware) with new retro additions. Over 150 classic games were added in 2024 alone, bringing the total number of legacy titles included with Premium over 750.

Significant additions in 2024 included the entire Resistance trilogy on PS3, Ratchet &; Clank Future saga, the Kingdom Hearts series, F.E.A.R. games, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Soulcalibur IV, Asura’s Wrath, Super Stardust HD, Outrun Online Arcade, Quantum Theory, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, and The Darkness. Sony also added 9 more PS1 classic RPGs and a collection of PS2 Shin Megami Tensei titles.

This steady stream of legacy content ensured PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers always had an assortment of classic PlayStation favorites at their fingertips to revisit on modern platforms.

Continuous Growth Aimed to Compete

By the end of 2024, the total PlayStation Plus collection across all tiers sat at over 2250 titles. This staggering number represented over 18 months of continuous additions since the revamped PlayStation Plus launched in mid-2022. It showed Sony’s commitment to expanding the value of a subscription to keep competitive.

With Xbox Game Pass surpassing 1000 games across console and PC in 2024, Sony countered by regularly augmenting PlayStation Plus to create an increasingly compelling counterweight. While PlayStation Plus still does not offer day-one access to all Sony first-party games like Xbox Game Pass does, the sheer breadth and quality of the PlayStation Plus library solidified its status as a top-tier service for PS4 and PS5 gamers.

Going into 2025, all signs point to Sony building on the momentum of 2024 to widen PlayStation Plus even further. With new system-sellers on the horizon and a vast back catalog still left to cultivate, PlayStation Plus seems poised to keep adding fuel to its game catalog fire for the foreseeable future. For PlayStation fans, it’s an embarrassment of riches set to spill over for years to come.
