However&comma; on February 21&comma; 1965&comma; he was assassinated while giving a speech at the Audubon Ballroom in New York City&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">For decades&comma; there have been suspicions that the US government and law enforcement agencies played a role in Malcolm X&&num;8217&semi;s assassination&period; These suspicions were fueled by revelations that the FBI and New York Police Department had monitored and harassed Malcolm X and other civil rights activists&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">In a press conference held on Monday&comma;
