assassinations and other such bloody events&period; But there are some events that do not have any bloodshed&comma; that do not lead to the loss of human lives&comma; yet&comma; leave a long-lasting impression on us and change the course of history forever&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">These events did not happen on battlefields&comma; they happened in boardrooms&period; There were no weapons&comma; only pens and paper&period; These events shaped our history in unforgettable ways&comma; yet most of us don’t even notice their impact on our lives&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">&nbsp&semi;Let’s look at a few such events that most of us have forgotten&comma; The Wall Street Crash of 1929<&sol;strong><&sol;h1>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">The Wall Street crash of 1929 was one of the worst stock market crashes of all time&comma; with billions of investor wealth lost in just a few days&period; It led to the Great depression&comma; which lasted for 10 years&comma; and showed the world just how destructive the stock market could be&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<h2 class&equals;"wp-block-heading"><strong>Background<&sol;strong><&sol;h2>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<ul class&equals;"wp-block-list">&NewLine;<li>During the 1920’s the US stock market experiences an <strong>unprecedented boom<&sol;strong>&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li><strong>Speculation skyrocketed<&sol;strong>&comma; with investors believing that stock prices would rise indefinitely&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li><strong>Buying on<&sol;strong> <strong>margin<&sol;strong> or borrowing money to invest in stocks became common&comma; with people from all walks of life taking loads to push their investments forward&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;<&sol;ul>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<h2 class&equals;"wp-block-heading"><strong>The Flashpoint<&sol;strong><&sol;h2>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<ul class&equals;"wp-block-list">&NewLine;<li>People weren&&num;8217&semi;t buying stocks on&nbsp&semi;fundamentals&period; They were buying in anticipation of <strong>rising share prices<&sol;strong>&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>The economy stumbled in mid-1929 due to <strong>excess production<&sol;strong> in many industries&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>This led to oversupply in many areas of the market such as farm crops&comma; steel&comma; and iron&period; Companies were forced to dump their products at a loss and share prices began to <strong>falter<&sol;strong>&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>Global tariffs hurt the agricultural economy and excessive debt burdened investors&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>On the 29<sup>th<&sol;sup> on October 1929&comma; also known as <strong>Black Tuesday<&sol;strong>&comma; panic selling exploded&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;<&sol;ul>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<h2 class&equals;"wp-block-heading"><strong>The Aftermath<&sol;strong><&sol;h2>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<ul class&equals;"wp-block-list">&NewLine;<li>Billions of dollars were <strong>wiped out<&sol;strong>&comma; and investor confidence evaporated&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>The <strong>Great Depression<&sol;strong> &lpar;1929-1939&rpar; ensued&comma; leading to mass unemployment&comma; the world became divided between the <strong>US and the USSR<&sol;strong>&period; Tensions escalated into an arms race and an ideological struggle for global influence&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>Satellites could lead to intercontinental missile guidance and intelligence gathering&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>The Soviets realised that being first in space would prove their <strong>scientific and ideological superiority&period;<&sol;strong><&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>They also believed that beating the U&period;S&period; to space would shake global perceptions and inspire support for communism&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;<&sol;ul>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<h2 class&equals;"wp-block-heading"><strong>The Flashpoint<&sol;strong><&sol;h2>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<ul class&equals;"wp-block-list">&NewLine;<li>Sputnik 1 was launched on the 4<sup>th<&sol;sup> of October from the <strong>Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan&period;<&sol;strong><&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>Tracking and studying Sputnik 1 from Earth provided scientists with <strong>valuable information<&sol;strong>&period; The density of the upper atmosphere could be deduced from its drag on the orbit&comma; and the propagation of its radio signals gave data about the ionosphere&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>The Soviets&&num;8217&semi; success <strong>reshaped geopolitics<&sol;strong>&comma; started the <strong>Space Race<&sol;strong>&comma; and pushed humanity toward the <strong>Space Age<&sol;strong>&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;<&sol;ul>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<h2 class&equals;"wp-block-heading"><strong>The Aftermath<&sol;strong><&sol;h2>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<ul class&equals;"wp-block-list">&NewLine;<li>The satellite&&num;8217&semi;s success was <strong>unanticipated<&sol;strong> <strong>by the<&sol;strong><strong> US&period;<&sol;strong><&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>This precipitated the <strong>American<&sol;strong><strong> Sputnik crisis<&sol;strong>&nbsp&semi;and triggered the <strong>Space Race&period;<&sol;strong><&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>The launch was the beginning of a new era of political&comma; The Fall of The Berlin Wall<&sol;strong><&sol;h1>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">The <strong>fall of the Berlin Wall<&sol;strong> on <strong>November 9&comma; 1989<&sol;strong>&comma; marked the symbolic and literal collapse of the Iron Curtain that had divided Europe for decades&period; It was a powerful turning point in world history —signalling the end of the Cold War&comma; the collapse of communist regimes in Eastern Europe&comma; and the path toward <strong>German reunification<&sol;strong>&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<h2 class&equals;"wp-block-heading"><strong>Background<&sol;strong><&sol;h2>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<ul class&equals;"wp-block-list">&NewLine;<li>After World War II&comma; Berlin&comma; and by extension&comma; Germany&comma; was divided into two halves&colon; <strong>East Germany<&sol;strong>&comma; backed by the US&comma; UK and France&comma; and <strong>West Germany<&sol;strong>&comma; controlled by the Soviet Union&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>By the late 1950s and early 1960s&comma; millions of East Germans were fleeing to the West via Berlin&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>To stop the exodus&comma; East Germany built a concrete barrier on <strong>August 13&comma; 1961<&sol;strong>&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>It separated both halves of the city from each other and became the most visible symbol of communist repression&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>Anyone attempting to cross from East to West risked being <strong>shot by border guards<&sol;strong>&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;<&sol;ul>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<h2 class&equals;"wp-block-heading"><strong>The Flashpoint<&sol;strong><&sol;h2>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<ul class&equals;"wp-block-list">&NewLine;<li>Under immense pressure&comma; East German officials announced&comma; <strong>mistakenly and prematurely<&sol;strong>&comma; that citizens would be allowed to cross into West Berlin&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>That evening&comma; <strong>thousands of East Berliners gathered at border checkpoints<&sol;strong>&period; Confused and overwhelmed&comma; guards <strong>opened the gates<&sol;strong>&comma; and people surged through&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>East and West Berliners <strong>climbed the Wall<&sol;strong>&comma; <strong>chipped away at it<&sol;strong>&comma; and <strong>celebrated together<&sol;strong>&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>The scenes were broadcast worldwide — a powerful image of freedom triumphing over oppression&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;<&sol;ul>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<h2 class&equals;"wp-block-heading"><strong>The Aftermath<&sol;strong><&sol;h2>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<ul class&equals;"wp-block-list">&NewLine;<li>Border crossings surged overnight — <strong>over 2 million East Germans<&sol;strong> visited the West in the following weeks&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>East Germany’s communist regime collapsed within weeks&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>On <strong>October 3&comma;
